Gynecomastia is swelling of the breast tissue in boys and men. It may be cause by an imbalance of the hormones, medications, abdominoplasty (no specific cause). Gynecomastia can affect one or both breasts, sometimes unevenly. Newborns, boys going through puberty and older men may develop gynecomastia as a result of changes in hormone levels, though other cases also exist.
Mastectomy is a type of surgery that removes the breast gland tissue. The surgery is often done through a small incision around the areolar on the breast. This is a less invasion surgery and involves less recovery time.
Liposuction is a surgery that removes breast fat but not the breast gland tissue itself. This involves the insertion of a cannula, a thin hollow tube, through several small incisions. The cannula is moved back and forth in a controlled motion to loosen the excess fat, which is then removed from the body by vacuum suction.
Liposuction surgery can also be used for the removal of fat in the male abdomen, back, flanks and smoothing of the neck.
