Juvéderm Family of Products
Active collagen production stops in our early 20s, leading to a steady decline in the natural support structures that keep skin plump and youthful looking. As time goes by, this decline in collagen and elastin support leads to wrinkles and folds- the first physical signs of aging. We can replace this lost support with hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers such as those in the Juvéderm family of products. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps provide fullness and elasticity.
The goal for any injectable filler procedure is simply to replace the volume that has been lost- restoring your own natural, youthful look. This will not change the way your face moves, expresses or feels. We want you to look like YOU- just a little younger and more refreshed!H
The Juvéderm family of products are all formulated to act like your body’s own naturally occurring hyaluronic acid, restoring volume to your face. Each product has its own unique variations and indications for different areas including:
- Lip enhancement
- Softening of nasolabial (“laugh lines”) and marionette folds
- Reducing perioral lines, commonly referred to as “smokers lines” around the lips
- Creating more mid-face and cheek definition for a more lifted appearance
The products that make up the Restylane family of products include:
- Juvéderm XC
- Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC
- Juvéderm Voluma XC
- Juvéderm Volbella XC
- Juvéderm Vollure XC
Each of these products are naturally and safely metabolized by your body over the course of 6-24 months depending on the specific product, amount of product, patient’s metabolism, and treatment area.
Your Juvéderm Injection
A topical numbing cream can be applied to the areas to be treated beforehand for maximum comfort. Once the numbing cream is removed, the area(s) are thoroughly cleaned, sterilized and then injected. Each syringe of filler is sterilely packaged for single patient use with a very thin, small injection needle. The injection process typically takes anywhere from 15-45 minutes depending on the areas to be injected and the number of syringes being utilized.
Most Juvéderm products also contain a numbing agent within the product itself, which in addition to the topical numbing cream keep the patient very comfortable throughout and following their treatment. Juvéderm products are made and manufactured in the USA, adhering to strict FDA guidelines regarding safety and efficacy.
Mild swelling is common after any injection, and bruising is possible. Typically these side effects are not severe enough to interrupt a person’s day to day activities making this a true “lunchtime” procedure. Your clinician can advise you as to how you can minimize bruising and swelling post injections and may even advise you to avoid taking specific vitamins or supplements in advance of your injection to minimize these risks as well. If you do experience any bruising, patients can safely apply makeup following their injection to camouflage the proof that they had any injections done at all!
