A common trouble spot for men and women is the abdomen. Even with diet, exercise and a healthy lifestyle, many people are unable to achieve a flat, toned tummy. Pregnancy, weight gain/loss and genetics can all be factors that contribute to a flabby or sagging abdomen. When there is excess skin and some fatty tissue that needs removal to achieve a flat abdomen, the best solution may be lipo-abdominoplasty. Dr. Christine Blaine at Blaine Plastic Surgery offers the combination of a tummy tuck and liposuction at our clinics in NYC, Long Island and Staten Island.
Abdominoplasty, or a tummy tuck, can remove excess skin and tighten the remaining skin and muscles of the lower abdomen. When there are also stubborn fat deposits, liposuction is often also performed on the flanks at the time of a tummy tuck to further improve abdominal and waist contour. Many patients will also elect to add additional areas of liposuction at the time of their tummy tuck. These areas are commonly the upper and lower back and inner and outer thighs to achieve the overall body proportions and contour that they desire.
Recovering from a Tummy Tuck with Liposuction
While patients are typically encouraged to take 7-10 days off from work following their tummy tuck, we do encourage our patients to be up and walking around immediately after surgery. Patients must avoid any exercising and/or heavy lifting for the first 4 weeks. During the first 4-6 weeks following your procedure, we also recommend the use of a surgical compression garment to help reduce any swelling, enhance your results and increase patient comfort.
The results from your lipo-abdominoplasty will be visible the very next day, and you will almost immediately notice a slimmer and tighter abdominal appearance. With that said, your results will keep getting better and better. Full results cannot be seen until roughly 6-12 months after surgery when all of your post-operative swelling has resolved.
If you have sagging, stretched skin combined with some fatty tissue on your abdomen, a tummy tuck with liposuction can shrink and flatten your stomach.
