Men seeking liposuction procedures are on the rise because it is a safe, effective and minimally invasive way to tackle stubborn areas of fat almost anywhere on the body. Diet and exercise aren’t always enough when it comes to achieving your ideal physique. And age, genetics, and lifestyle can all play a role in how your body retains fat. As one of the most popular male plastic surgery procedures worldwide, men are gravitating towards liposuction to achieve the body contour and abdominal etching that they have always desired.
Liposuction is a quick and easy solution to help you reach your goals with very little downtime. While liposuction is a very effective and permanent solution for addressing excess subcutaneous fat deposits, liposuction is not a weight loss treatment and should not be regarded as a substitute for a healthy and active lifestyle.
About the Liposuction Procedure
Dr. Blaine will mark the areas to be treated with the goals in mind of not only removing excess fat, but also carving out a natural looking, slim, and toned build. Depending upon the area(s) to be treated, the anticipated amount of liposuction to be performed, the patient’s health history and wishes, it is possible that your liposuction procedure can be performed either under a local or general anesthetic. The procedure itself begins with an injection of local anesthesia to the treatment area(s). Once the area is sufficiently numbed, Dr. Blaine will insert a small needle (called a cannula) through a very tiny incision (less than 4-5mm) and simply withdraw the excess fat! The fat that is removed is then disposed of or harvested for re-injection in the cases of fat-grafting (fat transfer) procedures.
Who Should Consider Liposuction?
Liposuction is suitable for any person who is looking to reduce subcutaneous body fat. The goals of many men who seek liposuction are to:
- Get rid of love handles
- Sculpt a “six pack”
- Trim the waistline to fit better in clothing
- Slim the area under the chin
Common complaints of patients considering a liposuction procedure include:
- Stubborn and localized fat deposits
- Difficulty in losing these subcutaneous fat reserves, even with diet and exercise
- Dissatisfactory body proportions
- Unwillingness to go shirtless at the beach and pool
The results of a liposuction procedure are considered permanent, so long as the patient maintains a stable weight and healthy diet and exercise routines.
Downtime from Liposuction
Following a liposuction procedure, most patients are able to return to normal activities and work within 48-72 hours! Localized bruising, swelling and soreness are to be expected, lasting anywhere between a few days to a few weeks but will show steady improvement along the way. To help combat this postoperative swelling, we will recommend the use of compression garments to wear for the first few weeks following your procedure. The amount of bruising and swelling that a patient will experience is variable and will depend on the areas treated and the individual’s health history, including any medical conditions and medications that they may be taking.
Patients often note that they see almost an instantaneous improvement in their body contour immediately following their procedure, but it is always important to note that final results can take several months to see.
