- What is a BBL Photofacial?
UV damage is the number one cause of premature aging. Uneven skin tone, brown spots, and rough or crepey texture can lead to an overall aged or unhealthy appearance. A BBL Photofacial may help you undo some of this damage and keep your skin looking clear and youthful. Also known as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), BBL stands for BroadBand Light. This top of the line version of laser light therapy harnesses focused light energy to your treatment zones, the heat from which is absorbed by the skin. This triggers cell turnover and new collagen production, which rejuvenates and restores the skin to its natural, youthful glow! The BBL Photofacial device has a unique surface cooling feature, making the treatment very comfortable to the patient while still maintaining the heat needed to yield incredible results.
- Who is a Good Candidate for BBL Photofacial?
A BBL Photofacial is an ideal option for anyone who has found changes to their complexion related to age and/or sun damage, such as uneven skin tone, age spots, brown spots, and fine lines or textural irregularities. Redness, ruddiness, rosacea, and vascular lesions- whether chronic or acute- can also be treated by BBL. A BBL Photofacial can be performed almost anywhere on the body, with the most commonly treated areas being the face, neck, chest, and hands. This treatment can also be performed in preparation for a deeper laser resurfacing procedure at Blaine Plastic Surgery.
- How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Your skin damage didn’t happen overnight, so its reversal won’t happen overnight either! A series of treatments are typically necessary to achieve the best results. Dr. Blaine and her esthetic team will determine how many treatments are needed in order to achieve your goals. A typical patient can expect to see a nice improvement after just three sessions! Like most healthy routines, maintenance of your results should be ongoing. Sun protection, proper at-home skincare, and occasional follow-up treatments can serve to keep your complexion looking its best long after your treatment.
- Recovery from BBL Photofacial
It is not uncommon to experience slight discomfort during the procedure, with patients often reporting a sensation similar to the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. Redness, temporary darkening of pigmented areas, and flush complexion are common immediately post-treatment and typically resolve in 24 hours. It’s recommended that patients refrain from bringing any additional heat to the area (such as physical activity, sauna, sun, etc) for 24 hours. Patients can typically apply makeup after 24 hours.
